Florida water quality has been a topic of discussion for several years now, with locals growing continuously concerned over the water hardness and prevalence of “forever chemicals” (PFAs). While official reports state that for the most part, Florida drinking water is considered up to code per regulatory requirements, homeowners often still experience hard water build up and residual chlorine taste in their water.
The difference in taste, smell, and even appearance is prevalent when comparing purified water to public water. Everyone deserves clean water for their families. That’s why the water processing systems made by UDI are an investment well-worth the price tag to have conditioned, softened, and purified drinking water in your home.

Northeast Florida’s community-owned utility provider, JEA, delivers more than 120 million gallons of water to customers every day. While the 2022 water quality report showed no serious violations to the water quality, there was a low-moderate susceptibility score across the major grid and hard water – while not necessarily a health concern – was still very prevalent throughout testing. If your Jacksonville home suffers from hard water or poor-tasting water, the Hydro-5 STS® Water Processor can be your solution for an unlimited supply of conditioned, soft water.
St. Augustine Water Concerns
The city of St. Augustine’s 2022 water quality report showed that while no official violations were made, there were trace amounts of microbial contaminants, inorganic contaminants, pesticides, and radioactive contaminants. Being a coastal city, water quality issues exist for most homeowners. The most sure-fire way that St. Augustine residents can ensure their home’s water is conditioned and purified is to install our dynamic duo, the Hydro-5 STS® and ULTRA-6® Reverse Osmosis System. These two water processing systems work in tandem to soften, condition, clarify, purify, and filter the water so that customers enjoy great tasting water and avoid hard water build up.
Ocala Water Concerns
This is a more rural area of Florida, and many homes have underground wells. Well water tends to be hard and is susceptible to bacterial iron build up. Our FILOX Pre-Treatment System for private wells is designed to treat well water before it flows into your home. A private well owner must be aware of their well’s water quality and educate themselves about the potential for contamination. Pre-treating your well water to remove sulfur and iron bacteria will also help extend the life of your water heater!
The Ocala 2022 water quality report shows 14 different contaminants at low, “acceptable” levels. But if you’re unhappy about the taste or smell of your water, or concerned about forever chemicals, contact UDI for a free demonstration of how our water purification systems could improve the quality of the water in your house. Gainesville Water Concerns
GRU, or Gainesville’s water treatment facility, reported no major contaminants in their 2022 water quality report, however disinfectants and disinfection by-products like chlorine, haloacetic acids, and total trihalomethanes (TTHM) were traced. These common disinfectants make for unpleasant tasting water, not only in Gainesville, but across the state. With the Hydro-5 STS® and ULTRA-6® Reverse Osmosis System, homeowners can prevent hard water scale build up on plumbing and appliances, and have the peace of mind that their drinking water is purified and free of forever chemicals or residual disinfectants. You’ll notice the difference in your hair, skin, and even laundry with our award-winning water processing systems!
Orlando Water Concerns
Testing water drawn from the lower Floridan aquifer, Orlando’s OUC water quality report for 2022 listed asbestos as a found contaminant in low-enough levels. While they use an advanced ozone treatment process on the public city water, customers reported there’s a distinct chlorine taste in the drinking water. Another concerning study by U.S. Geological Survey, as reported in TIME magazine, highlights the widespread presence of PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) also called forever chemicals, in drinking water supplies throughout the United States. Only certain home water purification systems like the ULTRA-6® Reverse Osmosis Drinking Water System includes the advanced level of filtering to be certain that harmful contaminants are effectively removed from your drinking water.
Tampa Water Concerns
With 79.3 million gallons of drinking water used a day, 725,000+ customers serviced, and water coming primarily from the Hillsborough River, the city of Tampa reported no major regulation violations in their 2022 water quality report. With that said, e.coli and arsenic were both found in one sample during testing. While the levels were extremely low, we encourage Tampa homeowners to add a level of protection to their home’s water. One of the best treatments, as recommended by the EPA, is reverse osmosis. There are numerous benefits to using reverse osmosis for water treatment. One of the main benefits is that by removing bacteria and other contaminants, it can produce high-quality, purified water for drinking and cooking.
Atlantic Coastline Water Concerns
85% of the country is known to have hard water. Hard water is especially prevalent in coastline areas. While hard water does not pose a serious health risk, it’s noticeably rough on skin and hair, making them dry and brittle. Hard water will cause damage to your home’s plumbing and appliances as mineral deposits are more likely to build up over time.
Florida and Georgia are unfortunately known to have extremely hard water due to the geological makeup and coastal proximity of both states. Most of the groundwater is pulled from the Floridian Aquifer System, which is one of the most productive aquifers in the world. It underlies an area of approximately 100,000 square miles beneath all of Florida and parts of southeastern Georgia, Alabama, and South Carolina. The groundwater often permeates through limestone where it picks up a good amount of magnesium and calcium, making the water hard.
Generally, the 2022 Atlantic Coastline water report yielded no immediate cause for concern, trace elements of microbiological and inorganic contaminants were found.
