FILOX Pre-Treatment System for Private Wells

If you have a private well at home, you might be dealing with higher levels of sulfur or iron bacteria in the natural groundwater. UDI offers a product designed especially for private wells, called FILOX. It works as a pre-treatment filter before the well water flows into your Hydro-Quad® or Hydro-5 STS® water processing system.

By pre-treating and disinfecting the well water, FILOX removes sulfur, iron, and bacterial iron, preventing buildup of the bacteria’s slimy material that would otherwise clog up the water processing system and reduce its effectiveness over time. Pre-treating your well water to remove sulfur and iron bacteria will also help extend the life of your water heater!

What is Iron Bacteria?

Iron bacteria are small living organisms that naturally occur in soil, surface, and groundwater. These nuisance bacteria combine iron or manganese with oxygen to form deposits of “rust” bacterial cells, a slimy material that sticks to well casings, pumps, pipes, plumbing fixtures, and water appliances, often damaging them. Although iron bacteria can affect how water tastes and smells, there are no associated health risks. However, iron bacteria can clog filters and screens reducing well yield and the effectiveness of secondary water treatment devices.
