Georgia (Installations from 2015 to present)
You have a freeze valve on your system that will spray water when the water temperature reaches 35 degrees F.  This is perfectly normal and keeps the water from reaching the freezing point.
We would also offer the following two suggestions as extra precautions to fully protect your system:

  1. Wrap the control valve, meter and associated plumbing parts at the top of the unit in heavy blankets or a tarp.
  2. Leave a steady stream of cold water the diameter of a pencil flowing from your kitchen tap when the temperature falls below 32 degrees F. A small trickle will not protect it, because the water will not be moving enough in the pipes to prevent freezing. Running water through your pipes offers your best protection against freezing.

All Other Georgia & Florida Installations
If your Hydro-Quad or Hydro-5 STS is installed outside your home, in a pump house, a crawl space, an unheated garage or any other unheated location, please do the following to protect your plumbing, pipes and system:

  1. Cover the system and the pipes leading to it with an old blanket, tarp, or rug. The better you can cover and seal the top of the system the more heat it will trap inside to protect it.

If you have a freeze valve, do not wrap it so it will allow a small mist of water to spray if the temperature gets to 35 degrees, or less. The freeze valve will look like one of the following three:
